Christchurch Boys' High School is one of New Zealand's most storied educational institutions — a school with a strong identity, a proud tradition, and a set of values that run deep through its community. When the school embarked on a significant campus development programme, we were proud to be involved in delivering furniture solutions that served both its heritage buildings and its new-build facilities.

The Challenge

The furniture brief for CBHS was more complex than most education projects. The campus includes heritage buildings with existing architectural character that any new furniture had to complement, alongside contemporary new buildings that required a different specification approach. The challenge was to deliver a solution that felt coherent across both contexts — not identical, but connected.

What We Delivered

The solution was a 'kit of parts' approach — a carefully curated collection of furniture pieces that shared a material palette and design sensibility while varying in configuration and application across different building types. Flexible collaborative furniture in the new buildings, more settled and traditional arrangements in the heritage spaces.

The specification prioritised AFRDI Level 6 certified products throughout — essential for a school environment where furniture is used intensively by thousands of students and needs to last without replacement for many years.
